I stayed up pretty late finishing The Choice, by Nicholas Sparks. I expected it to not capture my attention as the other Nicholas Sparks books did because the main characters were older than the normal age Nicholas Sparks writes about. Although at first I was uncomfortable with how quickly they fell in love (similar to Dear John) I really did admire their outgoing relationship and passion for one another. What took me by surprise is that, the choice you think has to be made- demonstrated in the first part of the book- isn’t really “the choice” reffered to in the title. Technically you can say there are two vital choices being made in this book. Of course the second choice is tear-jerking, and you really don’t expect what is to come in part two of the book. At first you think their marriage is ending, but you’re in for a surprise. Also from this book i realized Nicholas Sparks writes about very important events in the epilogue, events i feel should be in the actual story. Overall i ended up enjoying this book very much, and found myself trying to push the characters to making the choice i wanted them to.

He sometimes wondered whether doctors realized the emotional intensity of time, or what he was going through, or even that time was finite.

Finding a woman with a sense of humor had been the one piece of advice his father had given him when he’d first begun to get serious about dating, and he finally understood why his dad had considered it important. If conversation was the lyrics, laughter was the music, making time spent together a melody that could be replayed over and over without getting stale.
