Finished this book yesterday. While my mother thought it was a slow read, I actually liked it. I feel it was filled with suspense although at one point I was convinced it was getting a little unreal (I’ll leave that to you to decide). I found it humorus that the author’s name is John, and one the main characters (Johnny) and one of the minor characters (John) shared his name. I mean why not name the good guys after yourself right? This book can really get to your heart, because you can see how one event can result in a family suffering beyond belief. I do wish the outcome with Johnny’s twin sister was a little different, but that’s just me. I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspense or mystery for there is plenty of that. And for those people who read one sentence, jaw drops and a gasp comes out. That happened probably 2-3 times at least for me. I did like this book and just like the majority of books, once I got into it and had time I read 3/4ths of it in a day. If you read it, let me know you’re opinon. Did you also like it?
Next up: House Rule’s by Jodi Picoult

If you value Harper Lee, James Lee Burke, Truman Capote, and Michael Malone, it’s time to add John Hart to your bookshelves.” - Otto Penzler, New York Sun.
Childhood was illusion.
Johnny learned early. If somebody asked him why he was so different, why he held himself so still and why his eyes seemed to swallow light, that’s what he’d tell them. He learned early that there was no safe place, not the backyard or the playground, not the front porch or the quiet road that grazed the edge of town. No safe place, and no one to protect you.
