Since I did enjoy Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck in 9th grade, and my teacher recommended this book to me. I took it upon myself to read The Pearl by John Steinbeck. Only a little over 100 pages it took my less than a day to read it. It was more scholarly and focused on trying to get the themes across in such a short time that I wasn’t really hooked on the story, just on finishing it. It described the importance of family, and how luck doesn’t always lead to positive things. It has a very good message to not be greedy and take advantage of what you have, and honestly I was surprised about an event at the end of the book, but I also believed it was very superstitious. I’d recommend it because it’s a quick read !

For it is said that humans are never satisfied, that you give them one thing and they want something more. And this is said in disparagement, whereas it is one of the greatest talents the species has and one that has made it superior to animals that are satisfied with what they have.
